There are several metal roof systems we install at GS Metal Roofing. From tear-offs, shingles, R-panel, to TPO and R-Panel, we can do it all! Two of our most popular systems are the Cee-Lock and the Double Lock. Both of these are secure ways of locking the metal panels into place. The double lock is probably the most common out of the two. It’s done mechanically by hand where the Cee-Lock is a snap-on finish. While both of them leave a beautiful and functional finish on your roof, we’ve discovered that the Cee-Lock has more of an advantage over the double-lock. Here’s what you need to know:

The Double Lock

This system is one of the oldest roofing systems because of how easy it is to use. The biggest advantage is how easily the panels lock into place. While a machine can be used, in fact, we have one at GS Metal Roofing, you’re able to create the seam by hand. The panels are usually a 24 gauge steel and range from 12” to 24” wide and 40’ long. However, it’s recommended to have at least 18” wide panels for a flat finish. One downside of the double lock is that because it can be done manually, or even mechanically, sometimes the panels aren’t spaced out as consistently as they could be leaving the finish a little off. It still functions perfectly as any other metal roof would, however.

The Cee-Lock

The Cee-Lock is one of our favorites roofs to put together. Their coverage is similar to the double lock panels in that the length is 40’ and each panel can cover about 16 ½”. The gauge of the steel can either be 24 or 22 depending on your preference and what the roof needs. These panels do require a machine to lock each panel into place, unlike the double lock where you can do it manually. A lot of roofers won’t get this machine because it can be more expensive. At GS Metal Roofing, we take pride in each and every roof we work on and that means investing in our clients!

While both roofing systems are great, our company is one of the few in the area that has the equipment to handle the Cee-Lock system! Contact us today to discuss your brand new metal roof!
